**DIBELS Testing: Thursday, January 12th, Remember your child needs to be reading 68 words per minute by the middle of 2nd Grade and 90 words per minute by the end of 2nd Grade.

Can Food Drive for the Welcome Center in Millbrook will be held November 7-10th.
Fundraiser: Alabama & Auburn paper footballs and booster badgets beginning November 14-18th.
PTA Program Pizza Sales: November 8th, Math Night; The student council will be selling pizza at the PTA programs throughout the school year.

Book Fair

The Book Fair will be next week in the Lunchroom. It will be open from 10 am till 1 pm. If you would like your child to purchase a book please send money and a list in an envelope. I will keep the money with me until lunch. During lunch I will let the students who have money go visit the Book Fair after they have finished their lunch. Book Fair will be Mon. through Fri., Oct. 17-21.

Cookie Dough Fundraiser

The fundraiser will be here on October 13, 2011. It will be ready after 12:00 noon. Gail Lehmann will be working late that Thursday night until 7:00 pm. Please pick up after car riders or come early to get your product. We do not have coolers to store the product left here overnight. Please make arrangements to have your product picked up on that day. Thanks so much for your support!

Belk Charity Days Fundraiser

CES PTA is selling $5 tickets for the Belk Charity Days Sale. Charity Days is scheduled for Saturday, November 5 from 6 am- 10 am at any Belk store. Please send in our form with your money as soon as possible. CES PTA keeps all money raised from selling tickets.

Field Trip

We have scheduled our first field trip. We will be going on November 18th to the Museum of Fine Arts and then eating lunch at Stevie B's Pizza. The cost of the trip will be $10.00 per student. If you would like to chaperone it will be no cost at the Museum but you will have to pay for your own lunch at Stevie B's. Parents will also have to take their own cars.

Join the PTA

I'm so proud that we are half-way to our goal! We need 9 more parents to join the PTA and we will win the pizza party!!! We are in second place right now...(Behind Mrs. Hurst's Class) Come on parents sign up today....It's only $10.00!

Parent/Teacher Conference

Please sign and return the form that I'm sending on Friday, Aug. 26th. This informs you of the upcoming Parent/Teacher Conference night. I'm exciting about spending some time with my parents and reviewing over the Second Grade goals for the year. Sign up for the time that will be convenient for you and return your form ASAP. Thanks!

Shaved Ice

Shaved Ice will be sold during P.E. again this year. The dates are: August 26, Sept. 23, Oct. 6, Oct. 25....Please send the correct amount. The cost will be $1.50. (No checks please)

1st Week of School!

We've made it through the first week of school. Hopefully, we have learned where to go in the afternoons for our bus and car riders. I still have some students that have not learned their lunch numbers. It's very important that they learn this number because I use it for other programs also.
**Money: There are a few of you that have still not sent in the Library and T-shirt fees. Please do that as soon as possible. Make checks separate from other fees: CES t-shirt $6.00, CES Library $5.00
**It's very important that you listen to your child read at least 20 minutes every night. I have already pulled each child and listened to them read. I'm already concerned about comprehension skills. We will start going back in the story and finding how to answer different types of questions. Please ask questions about the story after they read with you to help reinforce comprehension skills being taught at school.

Welcome Back to School!

Open House will be Thursday at 6:00 pm
Where do I go? You will go to your child's room for open house. Go to the Second Grade Building, Green Pod, Room E118. Please bring your supplies to Open House. Remember to label all supplies with your child's name. Check your child's behavior chart each night, and remember to read to or with your child for 20 minutes each night.

First Day of School will be Monday, August 15th. Please make sure that I know how your child will go home the first day and then everyday after that.

Money that will be due:
T-Shirt Money: $6.00 Make check payable to CES.
Library Fee: $5.00 Make check payable to CES Library. This check must be separate from other fees.

Please fill out and return all papers that are in your child's folder. (Please return the papers on the return side only!)
